Hardin County Work Camp is situated in Hardin County, Illinois. The camp was originally established in 1944 as a labor camp for workers in rural areas who needed additional income. It was the only federal labor camp in the state of Illinois and remained in operation until the 1980s.

In Hardin County Work Camp, inmates are allowed to receive visitors while providing an opportunity for the inmate and observer to maintain, renew, and develop family relationships. To apply for an inmate visiting, the individual applying must submit an Inmate Visiting Application.
Before beginning the application process for an inmate visiting, the individual applying must be sure they understand the Work Camp rules and regulations regarding inmate visitation. The application must also include the visitor’s name, address, phone number and relationship to the inmate.
Along with the application, the visitor must provide two (2) forms of picture identification in the name of the person applying for a visit, such as a valid driver’s license, state-issued ID, or passport. The application and paperwork must be submitted to the Hardin County Work Camp Visiting Desk, either by hand or through the mail, at least three business days in advance of the visit.
Once the application is accepted, the visitor will be notified of the approved date and time of the visit. Visits must be scheduled in advance and are limited to two, two-hour periods per week, except on holidays. Visitors must register at the Visiting Desk upon arrival, and no more than two (2) visitors are allowed to visit an inmate at the same time. Upon entering the visiting facility, visitors must present their approved visiting authorization to the Visiting Officer.
